After over 11 years of service, I’ve finally replaced my work computer. My old computer is so ancient, that it predates any of my employees and was bought when Shifting Roommates was still out! Here’s my new setup! It’s got an Nvidia RTX 5090, 96 GB of RAM, 29 TB of storage. Plus the new 40″ 4K curved monitor!

It’s a massive difference in terms of speed and how it handles big files. Putting all the files on an SSD instead of a HDD makes a huge change as well. I honestly should have upgrades years ago. The secondary monitor in the picture is actually my old monitor.

Here’s the new PC compared to the old soldier.

Lastly, here’s a picture of the old PC, which has produced so much of the Sapphire Foxx content over the years.

By the way, I hadn’t really done a ‘blog’ style post about myself in quite a while. If you guys like these, I can do more.

That’s pretty decent; if you’re dissatisfied with the ventilation, you could place the graphics card upright in this small case.

niced!
glad to hear you have made an upgrade. here is to many more years
What’s your production workflow like/what software do you use in the creation of your comics and animations?
I use the Adobe Suite: Animte, Premiere, Media Encoder, Audition, Photoshop.
This motherboard here isn’t to be sniffed at either, and for up to €600 here in the EU it’s interesting for its features and expandability, and it costs only half as much as my own back then, but I couldn’t and didn’t want to wait that long.

What do you think of the curved monitor? Why did you buy one? Is it better for video editing? What does it add/subtract as compared to a regular flat screen monitor? The reason I ask is I am debating getting a curved monitor.
I didn’t see the point of a curved monitor before, but I’m liking it. For an ultra-wide monitor like mine, I think it helps with the perspective of such a wide angle. Also, the curvature of this one isn’t too high, it’s more of a slight curve.
The most important things for me was getting a 4K monitor, with 120-Hz, and a larger size than my last one. It being curved was a minor aspect compared to those other factors.
Good to know. Thanks for bringing some perspective to my decision.
Nice. I’m not a tech nerd so to speak, but I am in the story making department. & it’s pretty much why I’m making my own, the inspiration from this particular link: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLzgscHwzoNQqL9m9zp9puZK129MN42h2c.
And this guy in the following link made it: https://www.youtube.com/@afanwithtoomuchtime4375.
This is my own method I decided of support, making a shorter playlist in video count: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLYf1g4zWScp9V23aV88uqb_xe3UM5n92S.
You should get a 10gig nic and run an unraid server. 29TB in a desktop is quite a bit. Congrats on the upgrade.
Congratulations on the PC! I’m trying to save up to get a new PC too. Any tips/pointers on what/where to buy would help immensely.
It really depends on your budget. My particular build is very hard to recommend because I know it’s out of most people’s budget.
In general, the CPU is the most important part. GPU is important for gamers, but they vary wildly in cost. You only need so much RAM, and if you get an excessively high amount the extra RAM doesn’t help you at all. Also, SSD is a must today over HDD.
You can monitor your current computer’s usage for these in the Performance tab of the task manager. It can help see what bottlenecks your current PC might have.
