As I’ve said a few times recently, all of the 72 existing flash animations will be updated to the new 1080p streaming format. I started the conversion process over the weekend, and it’s going to take several weeks to finish this large project. Here is the current status of re-conversion:
As you can see, I’ve divided the 72 videos into nine groups of eight animations, and I will be working backwards from most recent to the oldest video. I expect to convert one to two batches per week until it’s finished. As for where the new 1080p videos are going, and what’s happening to the old formats:
- Mobile Videos will be deleted when the new format is uploaded. They are no longer necessary, low quality, and give a number of errors.
- 1080p Streaming Videos will replace the flash videos on their page. The existing gallery of Flash videos will become the new streaming gallery.
- Flash Videos will replace the mobile videos on the mobile pages. Some people still want them, so I will keep them as an option. However, new videos will still not be uploaded in Flash. The former Mobile gallery will become the Flash gallery. For people who can’t watch flash, the new streaming format will work for you.
Sorry if this is a little confusing, but I’m doing it this way to preserve URLs to the videos, and to make the Streaming format the new default. For those of you who were getting errors such as the “Resource Error” on videos, the new Streaming format fixes that. Please feel free to leave a comment here if you have any questions on any of this.
Thank you all for your patience, and hopefully the whole animation gallery will be completely updated within four to six weeks. I will continue to update the conversation status page over time. I hope you all like the updates, and maybe you’ll enjoy re-watching your favorite animations once they have been reconverted.
Some videos that have been re-converted might have errors. One of the main errors is the “Morph Error”, which is most common during a transformation. Here’s an example of what it looks like:
If you see this error, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or fill out this form, tell me what video it is, then I will fix it. Because there’s been six hours of videos converted so far, I don’t have the time to rewatch all of them, so I’d appreciate the help if you are watching the old content. You can also report missing subtitles, incorrect subtitles, or broken links.
UPDATE 2: All the animations have now been converted to the new format.
